Fixed Appliance Testing (FAT)
As per the 5th Edition IEE Code of practice, Electrical equipment which is fixed to installation now falls under a formal inspection & testing maintenance routine. Items such as Hand Dryers, Wall Heaters, Air Conditioning Units, EV Chargers, Fixed Heating Equipment such as Electric Towel Rails, Wall Heaters, Immersion Heaters & Fixed Kitchen Appliances all come under this requirement.
Not to be confused with Fixed Wire Testing, the testing of these items requires a competent person to carry of the formal inspection & test on a set frequency basis & records of tests kept.
